Blockchain-Based Voting: The Solution to the Philippines' Electoral Woes

EGOVPH as blockchain project of Philippines Government
Election is the autocratic time for a nation, the dramatic, and the chance to select the next best leader for a national and local government. In the Philippines so many cases of vote buying, hijacking, blocking of ballot case delivery and vote manipulation results.
Smartmatic is a company provider of electoral materials such as vote-counting machines and materials. The results will be automatically directed to the main office of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) but this system still uses paper, pen and the actual presence of voters in the precinct.  Blockchain technology will change the system into a decentralized voting system, that can't be hijacked, can't be altered or hacked, and can't be manipulated. This Blockchain Voting system will help to solve the problem of untrustworthy National and Local election results. How it's going to work and how to build our Nation with integrity and reputation?

The Department Of Information And Communications Technology (DICT) has the biggest role in forming the national Technology improvement and its Cyber security space. If the DICT will create a Private Blockchain for i-voting the problem in so many years of issues of election results will be solved. From now on they have started this blockchain for this massive consolidation of government agencies within the single system which is the eGOVPH app.

The National ID and eGovPh App of the National government have significant roles in this ideal project of DICT and COMELEC. How it's going to work and How will the system? Before the implementation, our National Government shall explain to the people of the Philippines this importance and how it's going to work. Filipinos shall understand what Blockchain is and how it becomes a key for the secured voting system.

All Filipinos have mobile devices that are capable of installing the eGov PH App this app can be used by the COMELEC as a major Portal for Elections. Why this is suitable for this project? This app contains Digital National ID and consolidation of all major government agencies where users can verify user Identity in one App. If COMELEC creates a portal in this app which this portal is built within the Blockchain network verification process is easy and can not be altered because COMELEC and other Agencies will verify the legitimacy of the User (Voter) using his Gov App Profile information, Digital National ID, Voter Identification Number, and other Information coming from other agencies within the blockchain network where user are registered.  All of the App users have a copy of this transaction if the user creates a fake account the other nodes (computer) will reject the transaction based on the data records of the COMELEC Blockchain network. No hacker, stranger or double-registered user can enter the portal because it is protected by the Blockchain network.

Blockchain in voting systems, also known as blockchain-based voting or votechain, leverages the technology's security, transparency, and immutability to ensure trustworthy elections. Here's how it works:

Blockchain Voting Process:

1. Voter verification - Voters authenticate their identity using digital IDs or biometrics.
2. Vote casting - Voters submit their choices, encrypted and time-stamped.
3. Blockchain network - Transactions (votes) are broadcast to the network.
4. Node verification - Nodes verify vote validity, ensuring one person, one vote.
5. Block creation - Verified votes are grouped into blocks.
6. Chain update - Blocks are added to the blockchain, linking to previous blocks.
7. Consensus - Nodes agree on the blockchain state, ensuring integrity.

This Blockchain-based voting system is undeniable to give us a fast, convenient, realistic, and trustworthy result of Election. Using our Mobile phones we can vote at our fingertips with integrity and reputation.

What are the Cons of this Blockchain-based Voting System?

Block voters or Vote Buying

If can not be controlled politicians can pay voters electronically or cash in return for their vote. Though no one can view the identity of voters unless otherwise, theirs have someone behind their back, it's up to the voter who he wants to votes even if they are paid.

In Voter blocking if can not be controlled politicians can treat voters, confiscating devices and hijacking signals to prevent voters execute voting. More possible crimes will be anticipated.

Maybe precincts must be required during the voting date for security of voters and vote. Voters will go to their assigned precinct to vote. Only phone devices provided by the COMELEC can be used during the election.

What are the Pros of this Blockchain-based Voting System?

1. Secured - Tamper-proof, encrypted votes to prevent manipulation.
2. Transparent - Real-time results, voter verification, and audit trails.
3. Integrity - Immutable blockchain ensures accuracy and reliability.
4. Efficiency - Faster vote counting and results.
5. Accessibility - Remote voting possibilities for distant or PWD voters
6. Cost-effective - Reduced administrative and logistical costs.
7. Paperless - Environmental friendly

If that is possible our government officials will be now legitimately chosen without doubt by the peoples' republic of the Philippines. The transparency, security and fast relevant services of the government will be in a realistic way. No worries that the Philippines will be the leading nation in ASEAN for digitalization.
