Viber Rakuten will launch a new e-wallet this 2025

Viber Pay might launch soonAs per GMA News, Viber Rakuten Philippines announced the possible launch date of their newly digital wallet in the Philippines on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 during the held media briefing at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Rakuten Viber will be the first social messaging app in the Philippines to offer a fintech solution. The Viber CEO Ofir Eyal, said on Tuesday that they intend for its e-wallet service to integrate with their messaging app to lessen the hassle or the “friction”, between the payment platforms and messaging apps when making purchases or doing a remittance.

Viber Pay, as named on the e-wallet that will be embedded in the Rakuten Viber App, will help to make dynamic and smooth payment transactions between the customers and businesses in the app. It will also simplify the money transaction of the users between the other users, as all of their transactions, references, and traces will just be within the single app. Users will not go to other e-wallets, banks, and other fintech apps to make a transaction; take a screenshot, and send it in the messaging app. This so-called friction is the gap that the Rakuten Viber Philippines wants to fix of.

As a future financial technology firm in the Philippines, Rakuten Viber also said that they are constructing a possible partnership between the other banks, developing debit cards, credit cards, and the reward system. For the e-wallet top-up methods, users will be able to fund their wallets using the other e-wallets like GCash and Maya, and bank transfers and over-the-counter methods.

To unlock the full features of the Viber Pay, user will be undergoing account verification or KYC which user will submit their ID and selfie. Once the account is verified, the user can send money to other users for free with the QR code, withdraw funds, and increase their monthly transaction limit from 50,000 to 100,000 pesos.

The messaging app also announced the upcoming new ad formats on the platform, such as full-screen ads, video ads, and generative response ads.

Viber Pay will be the next financial technology firm in the Philippines with possible high gross, demands and competitive in the market.
